Simpson, MD, at: El Paso Dermatology 1700 Murchison Drive, Suite 215 El Paso, TX 79902 A t the time of this writing, the COVID-19 pandemic is still currently an active plague countered by rapidly developing effective therapeutic treatments and the hope of a vaccine on the horizon. Since March 2020, our nation has experienced high morbidity yet declining mortality due to a very speedy medical treatment curve. Challenges faced as medical health-care Providers initially included lack of personal protective equipment, quarantine protocols, and prevention guidelines. This has resulted in the unfortunate delay in preventive care for many patients. Sadly, some people are still afraid to go to the doctor or even leave their homes. We applaud all of you who have toiled to keep your medical practices viable in caring for your patients by staying the course and being flexible during this difficult period. Extended hours, weekend clinics, and pivoting to telemedicine (medical and behavioral) and telehealth (physical, speech, and occupational therapies) are bringing the best of our local health care to our members. High immunization rates are critical to preventing disease outbreaks and ensuring the good health of all El Pasoans. Vaccines are safer than natural immunity. Therefore, in the year of COVID-19, the flu vaccine is now even more important. As Benjamin Disraeli stated, “I am prepared for the worst, but I hope for the best.” Be well! David M.
